SPA PAVILION AT THE SEASHORE OF THE BLACK SEA

SPA PAVILION AT THE SEASHORE OF THE BLACK SEA

The idea of the SPA pavilion project is to create a new look of the seashore and beach pavilion, according to modern tendencies in organization of recreation areas. Main goal was in reorganization of beach zoning, pier and promenade; reconstruction of 1970s pavilion and to match new functions: SPA, Tibetan medicine cabinets, fitting rooms and showers on the first floor; restaurant and bar at the second

Reconstruction of the seafront includes following functional zoning: first level – seafront zone with street furniture, stairs became a part of architectural composition, it leads to the second level – promenade, pier and first level of SPA pavilion. Promenade and pavilion are combined by gallery on the first level of pavilion, this way landscape and architecture create a single whole.

During the reconstruction a second story of wooden construction was built, new planning layouts were created. Façade is made of wooden crate, sustainable for seaside climate; lantern lights in the roof fill space with sunlight; transformable glass partitions allow to convert second floor to terrace with sea breeze.

This zone is comfortable and cool during summer, warm and isolated from freezing wind and storms during spring and autumn. These architectural methods allow pavilion to function during nine months per year.

Main challenge – climate conditions: storms, hurricanes, landslides, salty sea air corroding metal. Project included constructional calculation of seismical activity, to avoid landslide slope reinforcement were made, all reinforced concrete constructions were reconstructed as well as as pier.

This project reconstructed not only SPA pavilion and seafront, but regarded it as a complex object. Architectural, constructional and design decisions created a new look of the place.

The pavilion is filled with new functions, at the same time zoning divides areas of guests and personnel and guests between each other: on the way to restaurant people don’t meet guests of the SPA, and people at the beach – project managed to separate guests’ flows in different zones, create areas for socializing and privacy.

According to the project, there was planned a landscape park on the slope. However, the entire project was divided into several stages: first – reconstruction of pier and seafront zone, construction of the second level; second – realization of interior design; third – landscape design project. Due to customer’s recommendation, realization of landscape park was postponed.
